Launch date: Thursday 4 September, 2014

Overview

Developing your food skills has been shown to improve healthy eating habits, quality of diet and food safety, all of which can affect your overall health.

safefood have teamed up with Tesco Ireland to sponsor Angeline’s Home Cooks, a new six part cookery show which will make its debut on TV3 at 8.30pm on Thursday, 4th September. Presented by Angeline Ball, the show will feature some of the island’s best home cooks passing on simple and delicious recipes to novice cooks.

The format of the show is simple – each week, a great home cook teaches two non-cooks how to cook a simple home-cooked recipe like chicken curry, lasagne or fish cakes for example. The non-cooks are then re-visited to see how they’re getting on.

Latest research by safefood has found that the ability to cook together with skills around food including cooking and shopping help influence healthy eating habits, quality of diet and food safety, all of which can affect our overall health.

Fiona Gilligan, Director, Marketing & Communications, safefood said

We had previously come up with an idea for a TV cooking programme where passing on basic cooking skills was the key component and this has evolved into ‘Angeline’s Home Cooks’. There’s evidence that developing our skills around food including cooking and shopping can influence healthy eating habits and there’s also a welcome trend towards increased interest in home cooking - 43%* of people reporting cooking their evening meal from scratch most evenings. By focusing on simple, practical, home-cooked recipes and teaching those who need some basic cooking skills and encouragement, we hope this show inspires a new generation to cook for themselves."

The show will be supported online and on social media by safefood with healthy eating and food safety tips. All the recipes featured on the show are also available online as short videos at www.tv3.ie/homecooks, to demonstrate in simple, easy-to-follow-steps how to cook these dishes. The show will also be supported by in-store cookery demonstrations involving the home cooks in selected Tesco Ireland outlets.

Angeline’s Home Cooks airs from Thursday 4 September at 8.30pm on TV3 for 6 weeks.
