New study supports the link between obesity and 11 types of cancer

An international team of researchers carried out a review of  meta-analyses studies that evaluated the association between indices of adiposity and risk of developing or dying from cancer in observational studies. An association for 11 cancers (Oesophageal adenocarcinoma, multiple myeloma, and cancers of the gastric cardia, colon, rectum, biliary tract system, pancreas, breast, endometrium, ovary, and kidney) were supported by strong evidence in this study.

Obesity is a major public health issue for the island of Ireland and it’s link with many cancers has been well established. This new research adds strength to the current evidence. We have practical tips on managing weight for adults and children.
