Obesity Update 2017

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has released the Obesity Update 2017.

There are currently over 30 member countries of the OECD including Ireland and the United Kingdom. Main findings from the report include:

  • More than 1 in 2 adults and 1 in 6 children are overweight or obese in OECD countries.
  • Levels of overweight and obesity continue to increase in all studied countries.
  • OECD predicts that obesity levels will continue to rise further by 2030.
  • Social inequalities in overweight and obesity are prominent and have increased in some countries. Less educated women are two to three times more likely to be overweight compared to their counterparts with a higher level of education.
