World Cancer Research Fund - Update on Colorectal Cancer

A report on the updated evidence on food, nutrition, physical activity, and colorectal cancer, prepared by the Continuous Update Progress (CUP) team at Imperial College London, has been published. The Panel agreed that the evidence for a protective effect from foods containing dietary fibre had strengthened and could be upgraded to convincing.

Conclusions for other factors previously graded as convincing or probable were confirmed. These include convincing evidence that physical activity protects against colon cancer; and that red meat, processed meat, alcohol (in men), as well as body fatness and abdominal fatness, are causes of colorectal cancer.
