Next steps in tackling childhood obesity

Public Health England (PHE) have announced their next steps in tacking childhood obesity – a calorie reduction programme.

PHE will consider the evidence on children’s calorie consumption and to use this data to identify the foods children most commonly consume. A target for calorie reduction will then be set. PHE will work with the food industry in reformulating these foods.

This initiative will complement the introduction of a tax on sugary drinks and PHE’s sugar reduction programme.
