Obesity and cognition

New research links obesity to declining mental performance. The study published in the journal Neurology, looked at over 6,000 people over a decade. It found that people who were both obese and had unhealthy metabolic changes (such as increased blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar levels etc.) showed a faster decline in brain function.

Further research is needed to see if excess weight is a cause of loss in cognition and subsequently in dementia in later life. For further information about the research check Neurology.
