Report on determinants of weight gain, overweight and obesity

The World Cancer Research Fund have released a report on the determinants of weight gain, overweight and obesity as part of their Continuous Update Project which has identified 12 cancers causally linked to greater body fatness.

Children sedentary for more than 60% of their waking hours

New findings from the Cork Children’s Lifestyle Study (CCLaS) reveal that children are sedentary for more than 60% of their waking hours. The CCLaS Study is a study of school children aged 8 to 11 years old living in Cork city and Mitchelstown. Children wore accelerometers for 7-days to measure activity levels.

A review paper published in this month’s Obesity Reviews journal reports that eating while watching television may be a risk factor for being overweight or obese in childhood and adolescence.

Teens who watch TV ads for junk food likely to crave junk food

Cancer Research UK have published a new report entitled “New evidence on TV marketing and junk food consumption amongst 11-19 year olds 10 years after broadcast regulations”. The report examines young people’s exposure to junk food marketing on television and its link to diet and weight.
