About Rufus, our handwashing hero

safefood has developed the Rufus handwashing programme with childcare professionals to teach children good handwashing habits and keep germs, including Covid-19, at bay.

We’ve created Rufus to make learning good handwashing habits fun so that children follow five steps to good handwashing – wet, soap, rub for 20 seconds, rinse and dry.

A Rufus handwashing pack has been sent to primary schools and pre-schools across the island of Ireland. The programme includes a storybook, song, sink poster and colouring activities.
